Favors - Tips from the pros ...
Wedding favors may be considered a small detail to some but they serve a great purpose.  Your wedding favors are little heartfelt gifts that you present to your wedding guests as a means of sending your appreciation to them for celebrating your special day with you and your spouse.  These are some of the fond memories they will have from your wedding day for years to come.  With so many options in the wedding favor industry, picking the right favor for your wedding can sometimes be a daunting task.  Here are some helpful tips and ideas to help you leave your guests in total admiration at your perfect wedding reception.

Unique ways of presenting wedding favors to your guests.

Consider decorating a table specifically for wedding favors.  If your wedding favors are stackable, have a creative family member or friend arrange them in the shape of an item that is close to you and your spouse or something related to the theme of your wedding.  Be sure to have it arranged in such a way that taking one favor doesn’t collapse the whole display.  Use decorative items for support if you are creating a difficult display.

If you are having a receiving line, consider having a nicely decorated basket on your arm and hand out a favor to each guest as they congratulate you.  If you are giving out different kinds of wedding favors, have your spouse hand out some too.  It will be like showering your guests with gifts as they go through your receiving line.  You can have your usher re-fill your basket as you run low.

You could also have your ushers hand out wedding favors to your guests as they check into the reception.  Your guests will feel truly welcome as they are greeted with a gift.

Consider using your wedding favors as decorations.  You can tie wedding favors together with fancy ribbons throughout your reception site and your guests can easily be instructed to take one.

When using any of these unique favor distribution ideas, be sure your guests know they are there.  Design a sign that instructs your guests to “Take One” or have your ushers direct your guests to do so as they enter the reception site.  You might also have your DJ/MC make an announcement.

Themed Wedding Favors

For themed weddings like a Christmas wedding, you might have your florist design your centerpieces like miniature trees.  You can use hanging ornaments with a picture of you and your spouse as wedding favors and hang them on the centerpiece trees.  As an alternative to the miniature tree centerpieces, consider decorating one table with a tree-like arrangement and hang all your ornament favors on there for your guests to take one.

For a beach themed wedding, consider sand buckets as centerpieces to fill with wedding favors for each table.  You can even add sand to the buckets for a true beach-like experience.  You can request your florist to make your arrangements to fit in the center of the buckets.  Your florist can also decorate the bucket with some of your wedding flowers.

“What do I give my guests as wedding favors?”

Wedding favors can be as expensive or as inexpensive as you make it.  If you have a hearty wedding favor budget; ceramics, coasters and chrome items make elegant wedding favors.  These are items that your guests can make great use of after the wedding and they are incredibly trendy.  To add a personalized touch, you can add a favor tag with your names, wedding date and a message of thanks.

Personalized wedding CD's have become popular in recent years.  Custom CD's allow you to share your favorite songs and/or songs you used in the wedding as well as special photos with your friends and family.  Have the CD label and jewel case insert designed to match your wedding stationery, and a photo of you and your new spouse will add a personal touch.

For those with lower wedding favor budgets, consider note pads and personalized pens as favors.  Guests can record family and friends information right at your reception using these note pads and pens.

Another unique favor idea is scratch off lotto tickets in cellophane envelopes.  You can personalize this favor with a seal that has your names and wedding date.  One of your guests could instantly become richer right at your reception making your wedding truly memorable for them.

Having wedding favors that serve multiple purposes are great for trimming wedding spending.  If you are having a seated reception, you can use personalized candy as place cards and as wedding favors.  Some other types of place cards also make great wedding favors.

DIY Favor Ideas

Do it yourself wedding favors are great for Brides that need to trim their wedding favor budget.  For do it yourself wedding favors, buy labels and decorate them with your wedding colors and a photo then place them neatly on unique items that your guests will appreciate like scented soaps, golf balls, sparkling cider drinks, and scented candles.

While the purpose of the wedding favor is to show your utmost appreciation to your wedding guests, they will also be an indication of how much thought you put in selecting them.  Remember, whether you are planning a formal wedding or a more casual event in a laidback or beach setting, your wedding favor will tell a lot about your style.  Spend some time visualizing your wedding day and then find the wedding favors to express your frame of mind without breaking your budget.
